「初蝶」means the first butterfly to be seen which symbolizes the coming of spring. The
Japanese artist follows traditional methods on the production of the large-scaled lantern which bears a strong resemblance with a real butterfly. The vivid depiction of an about-to-fly butterfly implies the transition from spring to summer.
