Co-creation by YUYU ART STUDIO and architect Huang Ren Zhi
This exhibition is the extension of previous exhibition, Half, to continue discovering the relationship between new and old. The old house used to be the location of First Bank which had undergone several renovation after First Bank moved out. In accordance with the uses of the following property owners, the old structure was completely covered with recent interior design. Through this project, the old house underwent another maintenance which eradicates partial modern interior design to present the beauty of the old house. The artists attempt to balance new and old, preserve the traditional material while extending the old spirit into something new. In this exhibition, the artists transfer the old structure of the house into exhibition objects. When both new and old co-exist, it might form a visual conflict which eventually leads to a harmonious atmosphere in this space.
In this exhibition, the golden lines resemble the spirit of old architecture, empowering the old house. Besides, the golden lines also delineate the structure of the house, simplifying, dividing and constructing a new “half” 3-dimensioal space. The whole process of renovation and maintenance of the house also characterizes the evolution of Yanshui town. When the new energy, such as modern facilities or artwork, enters the town, the new collides with tradition, but empowering this ancient town. Meanwhile, we hope to cause viewers to consider what the meaning and new purpose of the old house are. By this, the importance of our traditional house continues to ferment.
